[edit] Transportation
Travelers have many options when travelling to Beijing. Capital Airport has many flights everyday from all over the world. There are several sites that have proven themselves in the past namely Expedia, CTRIP and E-Long. Beijing is huge, and changing very rapidly. If you are staying in Beijing make sure to print out the address of the hotel you are going to before you arrive - it will help you make it from the airport in under 200 yuan.
[edit] Accommodation
Depending on what you want to do in Beijing you should choose your hotel accordingly because traffic can be rough. If you are a Beijing resident, its good to know that some Beijing hotels offer a gym membership which allow you to use their pool and fitness facilities. If you are starting in Beijing and traveling onto other cities in China, the hotel concierge's are often very helpful and can help you get train and plane tickets and tours.
Go to the Beijing Accommodation Page.
[edit] Restaurants
Beijing is a great city for dining out. Besides many excellent restaurants serving traditional northern Chinese food, there are a wide range of restaurants serving international cuisine, and food from different parts of China. Contributors: please add any restaurant you like to PseudoLocal's list of Beijing Restaurants.
[edit] Bars and Nightlife
Beijing has several "bar districts" that house most of the city's nightlife. On the east side of the city there is Sanlitun Bar Street and the Workers's Stadium. On the West side of the city the Wudaokou area also has several popular bars and clubs.
For the quintessencial Beijing Experience you may want to visit Suzie Wongs, or for a fun night out, consider Block 8.
[edit] Embassies
The embassy district in Beijing has many good restaurants and is closeby the major beijing Bar districts. See the embassy pages below for details and maps of the embassies.
Upon arrival, register with your national embassy in Beijing (one registration per family), and record their contact information (US Embassy: 010/6532-3431). You can either do this in person or US citizens can do so online. Keep their contact information handy. China is relatively safe, but take the standard precautions and use your common sense. Petty theft is frequent, so do not carry passports (only a photocopy), credit cards, ID cards, etc. when you do not expect to need them. If something of yours is stolen, report it immediately to the nearest Foreign Affairs Branch of the PSB where you can obtain a loss report for investigative and insurance purposes. Again, use caution in traffic, cars will not yield for you.
Useful phone numbers: 110 for the PSB and emergencies (gong(1)an(1)ju(2)), 119 for Fire, 120 for the ambulance, and 114 for directory assistance. Foreigners Section of the Beijing PSB, 8402 0101. Note that little English is spoken at these numbers

Open 24 hours and staffed with foreign-trained doctors, it has a pharmacy, dental clinic, in- and out-patient care, and ambulance service. Another option is the expensive, high-quality clinic International SOS (www.internationalsos.com, 010/6462-9100 for emergencies) with English-speaking staff.
