[edit] Bars and Nightlife

For a fun night out in Shanghai Face bar is reccomended. The bar located in a gorgeous colonial-era building in a beautiful guesthouse/park area. Lovely drinks, but skip the restaurant as it's over-priced and mediocre.

[edit] Stores and Shopping

Here's some great shopping stops in Shanghai: Lilli's Suite 1D, Maosheng Mansion, 1051 Xinzha Lu; tel.: 021-6215-5031 There's also a shop at the Portman Ritz-Carlton, 1376 Nanjing Xi Lu; 6279-8987. Lilli's has fantastic Chinese jewelry, bags, accessories, etc. with a modern spin. You can get jewelry custom-made as well. Great knickknacks for souvenirs. Shanghai Trio, inside Xintiandi - Lane 181, Taicang Road (near Huangpi South Road) 6355-2974. Some of the most beautiful designs I've seen in China - exquisite scarves, table runners, notebooks - worth a visit. Has some children's clothes too. Not Just Silver Building 1, Lane 137, 210 Taikang Lu, 5465 2382. Gorgeous silver, natural wood, etc. jewelry.

[edit] Culture Centres

Art is one awesome feature about Shanghai. Studio Rouge is a fantastic little art gallery right next door to Suzhou Cobblers. The owner is George, an affable Australian chap with a cigarette-laced husky voice who'll treat you to a glass of wine or beer if he's around, and talk to you about art. Moganshan arts district, near the Shanghai train station and Suzhou Creek. Lots of galleries around here - ShangHART in particular has some interesting exhibits.
